How I Got Into Entrepreneurship As A Kid & Why I Continue To Be Ambitious #MoneyMonday

Someone asked me the other day as to where the hell I get the time and motivation to be maneuvering between a 9 to 5 (this whole 9-5 lie is getting out of hand, its actually 8-5, or 6 or 7 or 11 depending on deadlines and month end closing).. So the question was how am I able to joggle between an 8 to 5 and still be able to pursue other projects on the side that require significant time and dedication.

Well to be honest, in the words of many passionate individuals, if you really do love something, you will make time for it; and because mostly the extra activity is passion and ambition driven, it stops being work and becomes a hobby, and hobbies are fun, they keep you refreshed and imaginative. I really cannot imagine a life which entails working an 8-5 and going home and doing nothing after that, to me (emphasis on me) it would be the same as giving up on your potential, ambition and dreams. Lets be honest, the corporate world is good!! really good for helping you build a profile, discipline and learning to work under pressure and teaches you a great deal on how to interact and manage people. for anyone wanting to start a business, I recommend you to get a head start by going corporate and learning all the necessary skills required to manage a company and manage people.

the reason I’m able to joggle this is because I believe in my own personal brand… and yes you are your own personal brand, I always see myself as my own manager that runs his own entity that is contracted into another company to fulfill given business objectives. what this does is, it helps you manage yourself before anyone else can, it gives you responsibility and drives discipline. As an added extra it also helps you sharpen your entrepreneurial skills, you learn to manage yourself. I have a vision for myself far beyond the corporate world. I wanna change stuff that I do not like, influence the world and create dope stuff that I think is genius and cool.

Back to the real story I wanted to share..well my entrepreneurship journey started back in the Takalane Sasemi days, back when Goku was a mentor. I’m from Limpopo Ga-Sekhukhune, its pretty hot there at times, especially in December. So me being the young Ninjaneer that I was, I decided I’m gonna profit from mother nature’s wrath, turning a negative into a positive. I started an Ice-block business, to briefly explain this: an ice-block is like Cool-Time frozen juice. My raw materials where plastic, water and drink-o-pop. That was my first business that blew up and managed to make me good money (as a kid). From there on I went on to run a firecracker business every year end. from there on it was inscribed in me that I will forever be in-love with entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship runs in my DNA also… As far as I remember, no one from my father’s side has ever been in the corporate world, the new Maloma generation is really the first to be exposed to an 8-5 which I guess has a good side and bad side to it. growing up I watched my dad build his businesses and that inspired me to one day take his ambition further and build my own empire. My brother Tiisetso Maloma author of ‘Forget the Business Plan Use This Short Model” and “The anxious Entrepreneur” is a perfect example of the entrepreneurial blood that runs in the family.

Do not ever let go of that child-like mind-state, that imaginative side of you that cheers you up and allows you to be distinct and unique no matter what people say about you. Be bold and genius and be able to dream ridiculously. Topped up with that is action, be a person that sticks to what he or she said they gonna do.
