South Africans Have A Say On What They Think Edgars Did Wrong – ‘Listen To The Kids Edgars!!’

‘Cash is KING’ is one of the most repeated phrases in business – without cash, you cannot operate a business. You need cash to stock up inventory, pay rent, pay other suppliers, employees, settle overdue debts, etc. Edcon, the group company that houses subsidiaries such as Edgars, Boardmans, CNA, Jet and a few other has long been having liquidity issues. It has been reported that they are so indebted that they are not able to pay their landlords’ rent and have resorted to offering them shares in return for a ‘rental holiday’.

On the Mzanzi humor Facebook page, we asked followers what they thought the reason for Edcon/Edgars having such troubles was. The responses were overwhelming, funny, savage and well thought out. From all the comments one can easily see commonalities of what people who have once been loyal customers think the issue is with Edcon or more specifically Edgars. Below are the top 3 reasons I was able to pick up from the comments

1. Expensive pricing model
2. Out of touch designs
3. Poor customer service and management

Let me stop with the rumbling and allow you guys to see the comments people made with regard to why they think Edgars is going under. Be warned – some followers did not hold back, its said that the customer is always right. This is a good opportunity for Edcon to see what people have to say.

LISTEN TO THE KIDS EDGARS!!

– Big shops too much rent they should minimize and also join the online shopping market

– Too many department stores within their stores, it’s confusing

– They are not innovative with making the most of the space in stores, there is no need for them to have such a huge space, it only just makes their rental bill ridiculous.

– They have not kept in touch with what’s happening in the market, lack of foresight, inflexibility and old-fashioned business model

– They don’t compete. They still selling Nike Accelerator in 2018

– Edgar’s prices are like shopping in dollars

– Open clothing account. Jiki jiki I’m paying 4hollard funeral which I never joined.. then ndeqa

– It’s not just Edgars. The whole Edcon is full of kak, the “Edcon representatives” in store sign up people for products (funeral plans, accidental plans etc) on their accounts without them knowing and the store managers are aware but don’t do anything. I called Edcon in 2016 and last year to file a complaint and they said they’ll investigate but I haven’t received any feedback ever since

– Expensive with old-fashioned clothing

– Too many international brands with their own little brick and mortar setup. Tom Tailor. Red square. Mango. Jo Borkett. Not catering to the lower LSMs. Typically, what Stuttafords did wrong. Also, many many low wage workers who were not paid well or on time. Exploitation of unskilled staff.

– A label called ‘Kelso’ made me stop shopping there…. I felt ripped off every time

– Edcon group and Truworths with their ridiculous prices and old-fashioned designs… I buy at TFG and Mr Price, then with school uniform, I will opt for Pep and Ackermans. Value for money+ Quality products!

– Had an account with them, you will pay forever, they added funeral policies and apparently, I was receiving airtime I never received, I paid it off closed off the account from that day no one should mention that store to me

– Too many brands in the store I got confused nje. Their shops are a mess nje and their house brands kelso, free2bu, charter club got too expensive

– Bringing in ridiculously expensive international brands and then allowing people to buy them on credit with their crazy interest.

– Don’t know whether it’s age, but they just don’t cater for me anymore. I mean that the stock they have is KAK

– Replicas from China are to blame

– Their prices are ridiculous

– They are too expensive

– They will remind you that you owe them by calling u on a Sunday to remind you of the payments

– Extremely bad customer service. The prices yhoo angeke

– Once bought size 30 jeans without fitting them, when I get home skirlek they are size 34

– That’s exactly what happened to me. I bought 2 Guess jeans size 28 (stretching material) and 1 Levi 30. Only to find after about a month wearing for 1st time Guess is too big for me and I’m size 30

– 25 percent interest rate

– I’ve never liked that store…it’s sad that some people will likely lose their jobs

– The likes of Woolworths and H&M is taking my money. The Edgar’s clothes became overpriced and the stores confusing. The competitors offered quality and good shopping experience and tidy stores

– Poor quality clothing

– Took a phone on credit, they forced insurance on me, now they want me to come cancel the offer in person.

– They couldn’t handle competition, and started selling fakes … I mean at some point they had the biggest shops in the Malls ….

– People don’t want accounts anymore

– the clothing line is ugly. I don’t even consider Edgar’s when shopping

– Edgars is still around wow the last time I entered in that shop I was in my 2nd year of university then I discovered small street as a student I was happy afterwards

– Expensive boring clothing

– I opened an account with them at 18. Closed it at 23. Five years later and I haven’t been back

– The shoes are terrible, no proper leather shoes and outdated sneaker designs. Nonsense

– I just can’t go there and buy clothes for myself or even my kids, the store is just boring.

– Poor management

– They need to accommodate everyone, in terms of size in clothing, I mean you can’t just sell up to size 38 WTF!!!if I wear anything from size 44 to 46 I might be happier or richer and ready to spend, but if I don’t have my size, you can kiss my money a goodbye, I mean I haven’t seen a broke nigger so far that wears anything from size 42

What do you think? Have your day….
