President Ramaphosa’s Quote Of The Legendary Hugh Masekela That Moved The Nation

Today my Facebook status read as per below:

I felt moved by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the nation address. This marks the first time that myself and many other South Africans including the mighty and fierce Economic Freedom Fighters have actually sat down and really listened in while the address was being given. It Could be that we are coming from a very low point as a country to an extent that anything with a glimpse of hope as such would stand out, or maybe the honorable Matamela might just be the one to lead us to greatness as a country.

Matamela’s State of the Nation Address has been hailed as a success by many but the part that had me moved was when he quoted the late Legendary Hugh Masekela.

He quoted the song ‘Send me’, in the song Masekela urges the nation to believe in him and send him to deliver in my definition a better South Africa.

Ramahosa said: “In his song, ‘Thuma Mina’, Hugh Masekela anticipated a day of renewal, of new beginnings. He sang: (Lyrics of the song below)

“I wanna be there when the people start to turn it around
When they triumph over poverty
I wanna be there when the people win the battle against AIDS
I wanna lend a hand
I wanna be there for the alcoholic
I wanna be there for the drug addict
I wanna be there for the victims of violence and abuse
I wanna lend a hand
Send me”

Ramaphosa added: “We are at a moment in the history of our nation when the people, through their determination, have started to turn the country around. We can envisage the triumph over poverty, we can see the end of the battle against AIDS. Now is the time to lend a hand. Now is the time for each of us to say ‘send me’.”

In quoting this, Ramaphosa was urging the nation to send him and to believe in him, at the same time saying that we should all head the call and send ourselves to turn the nation around, change will only be possible if we all work together and strive for a better South Africa… Will he bring us a better South Africa??? Let’s remain positive and optimistic.

Feels good to be a South African again!!
