Why more young people need to start writing..

Writing is one of the most rewarding hobbies. This is why I think more people need to look into starting to write. There are not a lot of young writers out there, and there are plenty of reasons why more young people should be writers.

Being a writer doesn’t mean you should release a book or anything drastic like that, it just means that your voice needs to be heard by a lot of people. Whether that is through thoughtful posts on Facebook or starting your own blog, writing should be considered as a hobby.

  1. A new voice

I know there isn’t much we can offer the internet that it doesn’t have already but having a young person come up with new ideas is very valuable. This is because most of us haven’t had much influence from the environment that would change our perspective on things.

That means our ideas are our own. We weren’t convinced multiple times of what we should be thinking of by the media. These are ideas that we come up with on our own. We have a unique voice that hasn’t been heard before and that makes us have a lot of value to the world.

A new young writer will have a perspective no one has ever heard of before and I think that can add a lot of value and uncover ideas that haven’t been thought of before.

As millennials, the older generation tends to look down on us but if they knew what we were thinking; then they’d see things from our point of view, then maybe they might just understand.

  1. More enthusiasm

I remember when I first got the idea to start my very own blog. I had been playing around with the idea for a couple of years and it was only a few weeks ago that I actually started officially. From then I was always so eager to do everything related to writing a blog.

It’s amazing reading a post from someone who is excited about what they are writing. This is what you as a young person can offer to the world. A lot of energy that has to be used and writing is a great way to express that enthusiasm and energy.

The writing community needs exactly that. People who are excited about creating new content; who show life in their writing and not just writing to seem professional, in a monotone.

  1. They can cater for the young audience

Most of the time when I read a blog post from an older person for twenty-year-olds, something just seems a little bit off. This is because when I know that someone is writing something they are not experiencing, that means it’s not their own opinion.

Reading a blog by a younger person inspires me so much. If they write about their success story, I will be more motivated because I know that if a peer can achieve that, then I can do the same. It is more inspiring than if a 40-year-old were to be the one who wrote it. In that situation, I would just think that I have to be 40 to get where they are.

This is why we need to convince our peers to write, so that we can get more ideas from people our age. The internet is full of older people and although I have no problem with them, I just think we need more young voices, just so we have a choice on the content we want to read.

  1. Self-expression

Young adults most of the time don’t have a platform to express themselves to a wider audience. This is a problem because we all want to be heard, we want our ideas to change people’s lives.

With writing, doing that is very easy. If your ideas are worth reading and are not duplicates, you will most likely touch someone out there. You will be able to write about your experiences which are most likely unique and will teach people new things.

  1. Creativity

Writing will make you become a creative person. Having to come up with new ideas will make you dig deeper into your mind and that will unleash your inner creativity.

Most of us are probably creative in some way and writing will help you know exactly what it is that you are passionate about. This is because you will write more about the things you are passionate about more than the others.

Knowing what your passion is and where you are most creative at will help with career choices and knowing what you want in life.

  1. Learning productivity and time management

Almost all of us struggle to manage our time and be productive. Having things to write about, especially if you own a blog and writing for an audience, you will have to post on certain days.

Since writing good content isn’t the easiest thing, this will require you to make time for writing. This will teach you how to manage your time and knowing how to manage your time will help you with productivity in all aspects of your life.

The skills you learn from writing are so valuable. This is why I think most of us should start.

  1. Make money

I put this last because I don’t want this to be your only reason to start writing. If you don’t like writing, making money from it can be hard. This is because writing isn’t easy, especially when you are trying to produce quality content for a client.

There are a number of ways in which you can start making money from writing. You may not be successful in all of them but if you focus on just one, hopefully, it will work out. You must know that these are not ‘get rich quick’ schemes so you would have to work hard.

  • Start a blog

This is the obvious choice because you are reading a blog right now. Starting a blog is very rewarding and making money from it is a big bonus. For you to actually be able to start a blog that you can make money from, you will have to have a self-hosted blog.

  • Freelancing

This is when you produce content for other people. You find clients and get given a task and you have to do research and write the post. Freelancing is not easy to do unfortunately, but to get you started, here are two platforms I use when trying my luck with freelancing Fiverr and Upwork.

  • Writing a book

Writing a book can be very fulfilling and the money you would be able to make if your book becomes successful is the most rewarding thing ever. Writing a book is hard so I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who is just starting out.

It’s probably best to practice your writing with blogging because that is your own space. Plus with blogging the start-up costs are low so you don’t need a lot of money.

Writing, like many other hobbies, isn’t for everyone. With that said, I do believe it is a hobby that most people are capable of pursuing. It has the ability to change the way you see things, to improve your life and just be happy because you are able to express yourself.

Why do you think young people need to start writing? Are you a writer?

  1. I agree with you.I’m passionate about fashion design but I don’t want it to end there. The idea of having an online mag/fashion blog wouldn’t be so bad…actually,it’ll most definately benefit me as today’s life is connected to the internet.
