“Why do they have to burn schools? Why don’t they just have discussions like normal people?”

“Why do they have to burn schools? Why don’t they just have discussions like normal people?” Another one of the few things I hear in class coming from my teachers. *sighs heavily* Students are tired, the way access to education has been set up only benefits the white middle class. University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) had been protesting over a month PEACEFULLY might I add. Where were the so called independent media? DOLOLO!

We all know SABC wouldn’t even be allowed to set foot there. In order for them [the students] to be heard and the need for free education to be given to the people and the next generations to come, they are subjected to burning buildings. Is it ethical, moral and most importantly fair? No it is not. Burning buildings, starting traffic and etc. are sadly the only ways where people receive attention from “the man”.

The world has seen violent protests all over the world for instance the 1700’s and the storming of the bastille prison, jump starting the French Revolution or even in the 1800’s the black Haitians destroying white farms and thereafter being declared the first black independent state further in 1989 Tianannmen square, China, you were protesting for pro-democracy and thereafter proving the oppression of Chinese government over its people.

Protesting is the only cut mankind has been allowed to bleed through. It’s sad that it has to turn violent, but is it entirely justifiable for it to go that way when people refuse to listen? No!  But what else are you left with to get your pain across especially when it involves the wellbeing of the majority such as free higher education.
