Conversations Like This Are Very Important Especially Since We Live In Africa & Majority Of Black Girl Magicians Live In Africa!!!

I just finished watching a movie called “beyond the lights”, with a black female lead. *pumps fist in air*. Being my woke self, I started thinking why is it that within movies the black female always has to undergo a level of awakening or a higher order connection with other characters they have to end up with natural hair.

For instance the movie Ayanda (which is proudly South African) the lead was about to have sex  with her boyfriend, she took off her wig as a “symbol” of her reaching an untouchable realm of intimacy with her beau. Another example is with the show The fixer (I am addicted) tough cookie boss Olivia Pope wears her hair natural whenever she’s with her lover, the president, and its sexy time.  Another time was when she was kidnapped in season 4. Another is when season 4 starts and she is lying on the beach with her natural hair used to over sexualise her.

I can go on about countless shows/movies/artists locally and internationally that do this. I am yet again told that my kinky coils will never go beyond used to emphasise the symbol of “fortification” that black women represent. Our boss ass natural hair is nothing more than just an accessory used to create a sense of “endurance” of the black girl. And anything outside of the ‘fro category symbolises an emotional and sexual weakness that black girls/women have without the fro. That is an outward AND inward racism that no one is doing anything about. I mean shouldn’t we be having this conversation especially since we live in Africa and Majority of black girl magicians live in Africa!!!
