Society’s Hatred for Gay People

Today I saw these guys insulting and ill-treating this young man. I observed this for a while trying to figure out why were they doing this. They finally brought it up that they were insulting him even assaulting him because he is gay. I then thought to myself but why?

What about a person being different bothers you?

Does insulting gay people make you more of a straight man? And after you show your dislike towards them, does it make you feel any better?

Has it ever occurred to you that they are also human? That they are who they are and that’s just the way it is.

How would you feel it the world was dominated with gay people and you were ill-treated every day for being straight. Has it ever occurred to you that the gay guy you keep insulting might develop suicidal thoughts just because of your hatred? Will your world be a better place when they have killed themselves? Will it make you the happiest person alive?

I personally didn’t like the idea of gays at first but I’ve grown to realise that they human and being gay doesn’t make them any less of a human being. I have learnt to live with them and accept them for who they are. I mean, does breaking someone else’s self-esteem help you boost yours? Does making them feel unwanted make you more wanted?

I struggle to understand society’s hatred towards gay people. Where’s the love? The unconditional love whether you are black or white, gay or straight, healthy or unhealthy, disabled or not? I shared a couple of tears as I was writing this as this because it is something that touched me; and it’s a serious issue society as a whole needs to address.
