The public broadcaster has never been good at playing far away from headlines, from the days it was not making profit to the time it had a multimillion Rand in house choir. Now they are at it again, SABC declared war on the regulator and is willing to take them to court over the decision they made recommending that SABC do away with their new editorial policy.

The decision made by SABC to stop broadcasting violent protest has received a lot of backlash from different organizations and leaders. A group of journalists and activists gathered outside the broadcaster’s building in Auckland Park to show their dissatisfaction but that was before the great COO Mr Motsweneng made it public that not even the ICASA will make him and the SABC reconsider their decision.

As we await the formal decision from the SABC and their legal advisors we have to ask ourselves if the decision by the Broadcaster represents our best interest. Perhaps the court ruling if this issue ever made it to court will shed light if the broadcaster is in violation of any code of ethical media practice.
