A Tribute To a Champion Gone Too Soon (Gugu Zulu)

Gugu Zulu 38, was a well known racer who won numerous local racing titles, he was an advanced driving instructor for BMW, VW and Audi. He was a TV presenter for the SABC motor sport show Car torque and later DSTV car show ignition. He started his career in the year 1999 just after graduating from a racing school.

In 2000 he shocked the racing world by winning the Vodacom Isondo Sports 2000 national championship, winning 13 out of 16 races with two second places.

He was an ambassador for the Wings for Life World Run, an event that raises funds for research into cures for spinal injuries,

In his last days Gugu was part of the #Trek4Mandela an initiative that wanted to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s birthday and raise funds to buy sanitary pads for poor girls.

One of Gugu’s dreams was to one day run his own racing team. He and his wife have a daughter, who is over a year old.
