The Parent Trap "What Happened To Daddy?"… By Nthabiseng Komane

It has never been easier and harder to be a working parent than now, in this current era! We, as women have never been more confused and free. No longer is our roles as woman just  about the “kitchen” but also about the possibility and ability to sit in the boardroom with the big boys!….

Indeed fellow saffas! We do live in a country where “its alive with possibilities!” as they put it! Problem with being a working “parent“(I say this word loosely as this seems to only apply to females when it comes to work) is the constant balancing! The constant bartering! More time with the kids or more time pushing paper to afford to get the kids stuff!

Now that is not the bone of my contention, my issues are when you have to take days off to look after your sick child or get called at school to come fetch your child or attend meetings (etc, etc..whatever bull we have to deal with due to child bearing! By the way those stupid child education books don’t prepare you for this!!!!) Everybody acts like its a phenomenon! Like did I not put dependents on my CV??? Why is everybody shocked when I have to go parent???!!!! *come on now, this is becoming boring* the snide comments and remarks amongst those who don’t have kids “her kids always have issues hey?!” (They will have kids and they shall learn shame! No words for them), the other issue is, we women think “parent” only applies to us…why do we need to stay home with the sick child? Why should we run to go get the sick child from school? Let the dad run too, after all you are not the only parent(the more things change the more they stay the same)! Funny men with kids are the ones who are pushing “but she’s always dealing with kiddie drama” *Rolls eyes! Mxm* We make it too easy for guys and then we get surprised when there are more male managers who earn more, THEY NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE WORK EARLY TO STAY WITH SICK KIDS!!!!! *so when your man discusses having kids tonight ask him if the kids are sick would you stay with them while I went to work?* Aluta Continua 😉
