Wearing The Same Clothes Everyday Can Make You A Genius

I know I know! Kanye would have a heart attack if he saw me promoting such. In the true spirit of the message that this article aims to reveal, i will make it a quick and short one as I know you have far more important things to do.

Some of the most innovative Genius individuals dress simple or wear the same type of clothing everyday (except for Kanye that is). Mark Zuckerberg wears the same damn grey t-shirt every day. Psychologists have said that this is somewhat a sign of genius. wearing the same clothes daily helps Zuck make a few decisions daily as possible, rather he focus his decision making genius on far more better value add things (Looks out for Kanye)

“I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community.” Mark Zuckerberg’s response when asked why he wears the same grey t-shirt everyday.

According to psychologist Oliver Burkeman who has studied the habits of genius, sticking to a very fixed routine can help a mind focus on the more important issues:

“It was William James […] who best articulated the mechanism by which a strict routine might help unleash the imagination. Only by rendering many aspects of daily life automatic and habitual, he argued, could we “free our minds to advance to really interesting fields of action”.

“Subsequent findings about “cognitive bandwidth” and the limitations of willpower have largely substantiated James’s hunch: if you waste resources trying to decide when or where to work, you’ll impede your capacity to do the work.”

Basically it’s about out-sourcing the boring everyday decisions to your routine, so that all your cognitive energy can be spent on the important bits of the day.

Theoretically, wearing the same clothes every day, having the same thing for breakfast and leaving the house at exactly the same time every day could unleash huge cognitive powers.

Steve Jobs, Obama, Einstein also follow the same trend, with Obama being quoted saying:

“You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” [Obama] said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.”
