"Excuse me Pastor"… By Kholofelo Molapo

I attended a funeral one day with my boy Kagiso Zinx Maloma in Durban. Images of that day have since become vivid, but I remember the grave site as if it was yesterday. Nothing special happened at the grave site, well to the eyes & ears of an ordinary person anyway.

But to me the most profound thing was expressed by the pastor that very day.
He was reading out of the bible and as usual I wasn’t listening to a thing he was saying, hey I was surrounded by beautiful women can’t judge me. I don’t remember the verse or chapter that was read, but the words crashed into my ears like an early morning alarm clock, shocking my whole genius back to focus mode.

I remember my brain saying “EXCUSE ME PASTOR” can you please run that by me again. He never repeated himself but I had already got the stimulus I needed to apply myself. See the words that just captured me & took me to a place where most dare not go went as follows;

“And God said do not weep or be angry with me, YOU CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND THINGS THE WAY I DO, YOU CAN NEVER SEE THINGS THE WAY I DO”

That single sentence would play in my head over & over for many months to come, & no matter how hard I tried, the words just kept playing forcing me to form a conclusion with them. The pastor (using his biggest weapon against free thinking) had just in one sentence summed up the foolishness of all established religions, churches & the entire regime, of all humans who wished to educate others about GOD?

“WE CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND OR SEE THINGS LIKE GOD”

Excuse me pastor: Did you say “We are made in the image of God?” Wait a minute you cannot see what God sees so how dare you say that? How dare you attempt to liken yourself to the one we should worship & follow? Are you suggesting that I should look to you and your church or your religion for guidance on the ways of the Lord?

Excuse me pastor: Did you say “HOLY WATER” and your prayer can bring me closer to heaven?

Your words, hands & tap water are no different to mine. You cannot speak the gates of heaven open for anyone. In fact you don’t even know how to speak in the language of the Lord.

My mind went on for many months fighting this terrible social indoctrination.
Perhaps these words, COMING STRAIGHT FROM A BIBLE, can help you find the confidence to
