Remember The 1995 Rugby Game That Was Supposed To Unify Black & White South Africans??… By Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

One team one country, black pain, white sport

24 June 1995 Ellis park stadium was packed to full capacity as South Africa took on new Zealand for the title of world number one rugby team. This event is one that has received a lot of credits as a unifying event in the history of South Africa, and just taking place a year after the first democratic elections it gave South Africans hope and somewhat of an illusion that we had attained rainbow nation status. Well worth mentioning is that this was the oppressor’s favourite sport, with a team consisting of only one racial group. Read More …

While we are still faced with the current anxiety of mass youth unemployment in South Africa, we should not turn a blind eye on the potential of employment shrinkage that technological developments are set to bring. Much like wood, fire and paraffin stoves were replaced with electricity, solar and gas. Human labor might – could – be replaced by “robots”. Read More …

The Black Middle Class Illusion

Post-Apartheid South Africa  has established a new classification of its own citizens by their economic status, talk of a confused country, by now there should be a balance between the Rich and Poor or attempts to achieve it, but nooo!! It’s rather used as a tool to measure who is the target market. One can quote Steve Biko and question if the struggle had direction or if someone along the lines forgot about such directions and formulated their own direction. Let us leave politics to politicians. Read More …

We All Actually Guilty For The Ongoing Drug Problem In This Country!! By Dimo wa Moraswi Sekele

drugs_sabcIs nyaope my fault?

I’m going to be a bit rough on this, maybe a little brutal in telling the truth we all know but choose to ignore. We have heard all sorts of excuses whenever the conversation about drug use and abuse is initiated. Some are bold to point out how “foreigners” distribute this poison and make millions in profits. Some claim that police are involved and this syndicate can never be shut down. Well here is my excuse.

Society loves truth but there’s a catch to this! We love the truth just as long as that truth doesn’t negatively affect us, that’s my excuse. We all know who runs these operations in the streets but we keep quite because they are our friends, brothers, cousins and neighbors. We cannot have them arrested because we won’t have money to buy data bundles to upload a status about drug problem in our streets, or we just too cool to snitch. Yes some of the loudest ambassadors singing war against drug use are directly benefiting from drug sales.

I have never seen a “NIGERIAN” in Mamelodi dealing in Nyaope but I saw one of my own (locals), dressed like me, talking like me and killing one of my own. Look this is simple if we going to take a war against the drug rings then the first step is to make it a problem for all of us. Whether your kids are too smart to take drugs or you think you will never try them is immaterial, this problem affects all of us and we have to start taking responsibility in solving this matter.

Who are these guys dressed in hodies? It all starts with them laughing with us but hoping more guys get hooked. They sleep somewhere, they have families, have friends and pretty much someone is aware that they are dealing. These guys might not be the ones breaking in our houses but the money made from our stolen goods ends up in his pockets at least temporarily untill the “mysterious” ring leaders comes to collect it. So the problem affects all of us, it should be declared a national emergency and special task teams formed to deal with this.

We do not really need more rehabs but we need more active citizens”

Look the authorities cannot win against this fight alone, they need someone to be giving names and addresses but we just too cool to snitch, or we scared no-matter what our excuses are we are just not moved yet because our own family members are not hooked as yet. It is our ignorance that perpetuates this problem, it is sad because this addiction is like some country wide movement. We do not really need more rehabs but we need more active citizens, you might not realize it but every time a police man chases an addict for a house breaking that policeman is not doing his job. My point is if we remove the addiction the crime will automatically die, in short the addiction is the criminal we should be fighting. Can we fight addiction with prison? I don’t think this is the right time to analyze the victims of addiction but to conceptualize a practically effective method of dealing with the distribution of such drugs. You kill the network you make it harder for it to be accessed. You arrest the ring leaders give them triple life sentences for killing so many dreams.

You and I have a choice, to either kill this problem or let it grow while we look the other way. I just pray it never gets too big to be stopped.

Dimo says addiction is wrong and distribution of drugs is crime, so say no and start acting up.

“I Made That B*** Famous”… By Dimo wa Moraswi Sekele

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 13: Kanye West takes the microphone from Taylor Swift and speaks onstage during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall on September 13, 2009 in New York City. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/WireImage)

Even though the penning down of this piece is partly influenced by the tweet of one famous guy, the need to address this issue is however due to a greater group of guys ushering the same sentiment. The lady in question is a high profile celebrity, but the mistake to dismiss this case as a special case is unfortunate as million other women worldwide go through the same thing every single day.

“ I made her, if it was not of me she wouldn’t be who she is today”…This statement might not sound offensive or wrong but, when used for the purpose of degrading someone believe me its nasty and narcissistic. What troubles me most is the constantly dominant male voice that keeps saying these words. Actually everything about this statement is wrong and offensive, the question remains how did we get here? Why are we even here?

Let me break it down for you, the notion that one person can make the other is false. It exaggerate the worth of the other person while stealing the glory of the next, irrespective of the role one played in your life, the conclusion that such a person made you is unforgivable. The most potent element of this statement is the “pull him/her down” element. This is achieved in two ways; first by portraying the subject as an ungrateful human being. Secondly the perpetrator assumes a godly position in the subject’s life; this is so to say if I met you before you were successful and contributed in the process that saw your success, I will always own you. I can always walk in and over your life, and you always have to be on your knees because I made you.

A million of women are victims of all sort of abuse, verbal abuse being the most common and yet less vocal form of abuse. It does not surprise me that such an insulting, disrespectful and belittling message said in a public space was not picked up. When you hear so many wrong things at the end you just stop picking the wrong elements of such statements and start accepting them as a norm. The truth is a lot of women are subjected to this kind of talk behind closed doors. It is not only an abusive element but also a way to keep her in-check, yes to reduce her self-confidence and mud-walk all over her to look like a bigger person and stimulate your ego.

In short men need to stop this kind of talk, most importantly stop trying to reduce women so they can look taller. Stop insulting women so they can look smarter, and make sure next time someone takes this type of behavior and mindset to Twitter it will be treated with the contempt it deserves. It was a great thing that you helped her but now that you using it against her; your initial intentions are highly questionable…

Degrees Are For Sale!! Being Smart Isn’t Enough… By Dimo wa Moraswi Sekele

Tuition-image

Education is the key to success, and money is the extra lock we have to struggle with before we can unlock that success. But believe me, money is not the only thing we have to struggle with, experience, importance of the qualification ohh and the colour of your skin too…

Is education for sale? Is it a privilege reserved for only the few people who have money? Let me paint a picture for you: why do rich people pay so much money to have their kids educated?. Are they paying for the same quality of education they can get for free? The answer is NO to both questions because we all know above all that resources make learning easier, before we speak about the quality of the teachers available and other more expensive methods of learning like having tutors and fewer learners in class let us ask what should happen to the poor ones?

Let us take a road trip to Eastern Cape, just in case you are not sure why I use Eastern Cape as an example you might need to refer to the matric results for the past 2 years and yes going to school feels like a road trip for the learners there. There is little to no infrastructure and the learners have to walk for kilometers to get to school. If Jumping Rivers and crossing bushes is not enough to push the poor learners to quit school, then the harsh reality of impoverished poverty always distracts them from studying. Even if they study hard we have to acknowledge, not knowing what will happen after high school is not that motivating at all. Is education for sale?

From primary to high school, the challenges of a learner whose parents can only afford uniform, school shoes and a pencil case, but that is nothing compared to the significant and apparent impossibility that they have to face in trying to move to University. Comparing the statistics of a public school to that of private school, one will notice that the latter always performs better, can it be concluded that kids from “affording families” work harder or are just smarter? Education is for sure not for free or when served for free it is somehow flawed. Maybe basic education is for free but quality education is for sale.

“Maybe basic education is for free but quality education is for sale”

Now let assume the kid from rural EC and the one from a private school all manage to pass with good grades. They both apply for a Bsc in Computer Science, are you aware that the kid from a private school has got the upper hand already? Forget that, let us talk about access. More than 50% of public school matriculants never make it into university. Finance proves to be a nightmare at times even for the kids of the middle class citizens. This is were you come to realize education is for sale, no matter how hard you work if you can’t pay for your studies (and have no funding anywhere else) you are kicked out.

The cost of higher education is close to the cost of a brand new car. The difference is with a car you get to pay for 5 years and for a degree your fees have to be up to date every single year and have to be fully paid by the end of third year. A lot of students get financially excluded, not to mention the ones that never make it past the higher registration fees. I know someone is screaming bull**it NSFAS is funding them but are you aware not everyone gets covered? I am not talking about the “too rich to be poor and too poor to be rich” class. I am talking about those who meet all the requirements but never get accepted because the budget allocation was too little.

For all the reasons mentioned above, it is safe to say a kid from a rich family stands a better chance to be more educated than a kid from a poor background. The only difference between the two is money; therefore it makes sense to say a Degree is for sale. Your hard work, dedication and high IQ are not enough to keep you in class…

Survival Guide For dealing With Depression & Stress… By Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

Survival Guide from a proud survivor

It all started in 2014 when I lost my source of income, at first I did not stress because I believed it was high time I stopped focusing on someone else’s objectives and pursue my own, something I was passionate about. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a journey that required more than passion, energy, strategy, persistence and emotional intelligence. This new journey included upsetting what I have known as Normal from when I was young till this day. I embarked on a new course of action, and most importantly it entailed learning the basics of survival in a whole new world, a world without a comfort zone.

The first element of survival I had to learn was to be patient, it took me sometime to understand that there is no “I want that jean I want that sneacker” and partying every weekend.  I had to be patient with myself for not affording the luxuries that I once did, had a lot residual anger that imposed an emotional strain that soon translated into a medical condition. I soon learnt that being patient was a must if I wanted to maintain my sanity and rescue myself from anxiety and possible depression, did you know a lot of stress affects one’s state of mind and that can result in memory loss, migraines, sleep disorders, anxiety and depression.

I never knew the courage one needed to stop a total stranger and ask for 50 cent till the day I had no money to go back home, that one experience alone demanded that I strip myself of any pride and leave my comfort zone. It is an experience that taught me my wallet is not my source of confidence and that making excuses for yourself makes people think you are a scam, and most importantly I learned to smile even when my plea was rejected and thank that person for their time.
The spirit of sharing surpass the need to please oneself, I only learned this by asking myself what I can do to help the people around me. This remains one of the spirits I would love to maintain regardless of my situation as it does not only display spirit of humility but portrays to every degree a character of responsible citizenship. Like they say sharing is caring and because it makes me happy to give my last R3 to the poor guy at the taxi rank who is also in the same situation I once faced I will keep doing it.

What I experienced firsthand is that embarking on any journey without direction is brave and foolish, brave because a few people never take that first step and foolish because embarking on a journey to nowhere is not a very smart move. Any action without strategy is a tragedy waiting to happen; as a result my first step was not a waste as such as it allowed me to think from a doer perspective and not just a dreamer or bystander. I was in a slow motion learning every single step of the way; in short this element taught me knowledge is not only at school and lectures are not the only teachers thanks to Google and the 1000 of blogs available online. Until you actually do something you not doing anything, until I wrote this piece it was just a wish or dream.

“Let Your Ideas Outlive You”

The emotional torture that comes with trying something new is not a child’s play, and the upsetting of normality meant I upset what I thought made me happy. So it became a whole new world, drinking and clubbing is a complete bore and holding a can taking stills or video is more exciting than having a female companion. In short I had to change the input to get different outputs, it is a must for anyone trying something new. A case of a friend who registered at school and failed because he did not want to upset what he has known as normality for the past 5 years always reminds me, even in the absence of scientific evidence to support my theory there is some logic to it.

Emotional stability is an investment, have you ever woken up in the morning and felt like not going to work. Well that happens to be common to a lot of people and emotions play a huge role in that kind of situation so whether you are trying something new or feeling your emotions are holding you hostage remember emotions are not supposed to control you. I learned I had to master manipulating my emotions for my own good or they will would have led me to complete failure.

Dear Future Girlfriend: What Is Your 5 Year Plan? By Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

trophy_wife

For some time now I have emphasized the importance of having more than just a trophy in your life. Are you more interested in how the outside environment perceives of you? Why drag a statue to your bedroom while you know damn well that your precious time can be spend better off with something more value adding? I am of the view that a relationship should extend well beyond physical presence and emotional issues, and I never shy away from any opportunity to share genius views on that a relationship should not be a financial burden or an income generating platform for one party.

To be honest, I have walked the trophy route myself; it is like trying to replace friends with photos and expecting them to do what friends do. I then learned the rule of association is actually true, you end up being nothing more than the people you allow into your personal cycle. I even almost fell for an idea to interview potential girlfriends in future because of my experiences (bad experiences I tell you!!) with relationships. Will it be such a bad idea to know her future plans before I even know her name? To figure out how she will fit in my life without compromising her? The 5 year plan question should be extended to women also.

The 5 year plan question should be extended to women also…

It becomes apparent at some stage that you need more than just a trophy. A lot of women (partners generally) never miss an opportunity to throw this quote whenever it is convenient for them “behind every successful man there is a supportive women” while in real essence the true implications of this quote suggests that women aren’t capable of becoming successful themselves. It is of course selfish of one partner to expect support while they don’t offer any in return.

What I’m trying to highlight is a very simple issue that always results in a lot of complications, is it possible to have two totally mutually inclusive individuals? It sounds unrealistic to claim the possibility exist but I’m more scared of suggesting it is normal to have two totally incompatible people living together. I am not in any way suggesting only entrepreneurs should date entrepreneurs but not everyone can cope with the pressure of dating an entrepreneur, the issue of compatibility remains one of those issues we are always ready to walk past without finding a binding conclusion.

If the support system around you isn’t conducive for your dreams to come true, you are for sure going to walk an extra mile and half to achieve your goals. How important is it that you surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dreams? Is it any less important to have a partner who believes in you? Relationships come with a binding responsibility for both parties to support each other, is it possible that one person can support something they do not believe in?

I still maintain there should be more to a relationship than just a feeling, just understanding, just a picture perfect hand in hand image. In a time where people are more focused on the illusion of the biological clock and catching up with married friends, the issue of finding someone who compliments you in your aspirations, dreams and values remains a forgotten puzzle and that is the main reason why most break up and fail to understand what went wrong. I surely will keep looking until I find that one soul that floats parallel to my gravity.

Keep looking and don’t settle….. She or he is out there…..

My open letter to world leaders Dimo Wa Moraswi sekele

My open letter to world leaders

First let me congratulate you for doing a great job, no matter how small it is I believe in between lying to your people, killing your people and stealing from them you do little good maybe to quench your own guilty conscious. It doesn’t really matter why you send medical teams to the disaster stricken West Africa, all what matters is lives are saved.

Now let me start with you America, am tired of your bullying tactics. Ever since you started invading people’s countries in the name of peace can you kindly point out one country that has finally achieved peace. Do you even know any different method to create peace without invading the skies, waters and grounds of other nations with your blood hungry troops. For years I have believed the blue color lie that America is the most generous country, that is why it invest billions in military grade ammunition and technology, too generous that is why it is always ready for war not only on their soil but anywhere in the world is their battle field. Coming from a peace maker this is shocking what kind of peace involve more bombings, more attacks and more billion dollar bloodshed from the billion dollar bullets that not only take lives but take opportunities from American kids.

The next  bully is you Russia, even though I don’t buy into the Americanized version of Russia that America has made popular via TV, my judgment about you don’t fall far away from being ruthless an greedy. Common sense tell me business is about demand and supply and if there were to be peace then they won’t be demand for weapons, and that means they won’t be profit for you. What trouble me is the abundance of weapons that terrorist poses, interestingly other states can’t afford such quantity and grade of weapons. As to who purchase this weapons, when, where and why? Remain a mystery, the one that our useless UN has so far managed to ignore. Well I suppose US find no interest in this mystery hence the ignorance from UN, but someone make this purchase for this terrorist and the supplier should come clean.

The new kid on the block doesn’t give the human nation any hope; the willingness to go to war displayed by china leave a sour taste in my mouth. We all know money come with its own perks, and looks like China opted for aggressiveness as number one on the list, and like the old saying says “when the elephants fight it is the grass that suffer” if this power houses could go to war then sadly the third world countries will be the first to be wiped out by the devastating poverty that will come as a result.

As if our leaders are not doing enough damage already, we also have to struggles with individuals who cannot accept, tolerate or least respect the diverse religious spectra this universe offer. What scares me about these individuals, who mobilize to form even more dangerous extremist movements, is their willingness to kill others for simply not buying into their religion. This extremist movements have zero respect for other groups, irrespective of whether you violent or not if you get caught thinking the country or world should be ran in accordance to your religion, you are an extremist only shot of guns bombs and a death wish. Wish all religious leaders can meet discus this and go back to explain to their people no religion is superior to the other.

When one is still worried about the rate of bomb killings in the world, thief’s find a chance to pocket government funds, create get rich quick scams and give them fancy names that appeal to majority but work for minority. Bribe become the order of the day and corruption consume all the possibilities, third world countries produce the highest paid presidents, third world countries spend money they don’t have spoiling ministers who spend half the time in office clueless what they have to do. Executives appointed on the basis of political affiliation, family member or loyalty to individuals rather than course. Africa producing a string of longest serving presidents and lowest progress in the process, free and fair elections threatened by guns and outcomes that are met by revolts, specializing in genocide, xenophobia and leaders who offer nothing, can Africans protect their Africa from anyone who tries to steal it or steal from it.

We have kept quit for way too long, if there is a perfect time to solve all this issues is now.

Before we call any leader to ICC let us call Bush and Obama for the killings in the middle east, and just a random thought do you all believe the 911 was orchestrated from a cave in the middle of nowhere, with camels and sheep’s? I really don’t want us to go deeper into technical details because it is a lost cause. Accidentally every country with oil reservoirs happens to have terrorist and peace makers have been there since they were 19 years old an soon they will be retiring.

Black & White Barbie Dolls.. "Shade Doesn't matter Heart Makes The Lover… Girl You So Beautiful" By Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

6a00d8341c2df253ef01675fc5b5be970b

“It is just a Barbie doll I don’t understand why you are stressing about it??”

#blackbutterflythursday: “The Caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived it” kendrick Lamar

Girls spent most of their early years playing with dolls which of course is nothing bad. In their playing they act as parents to the dolls, you have to admire the power of a young mind to reproduce all the things they hear which were either said to them, about them or in their presence. Or is it mother nature telling a tale of natural abilities, either way the little girls get to comb the long hair and admire the light skin pigmentation. Is it fair to let young girls hate themselves because they don’t have the same hair or skin colour as Barbie? Hell all they see around their environment is weave, lots of makeup and less of that natural hair.

Admiration for light skin, long eyelashes and long hair starts at an early age for most black girls, it is not a case of choice like we would like to believe. Even if we were to have a black Barbie, studies have shown that young girls would still pick the white one, even though women are the ones who suffer more studies have proven that men are equally affected by the issue of black skin versus light skin. One comedian argues “that is why when brothers get established they marry a white women” with this being true in some instance you can safely say it was a humorous observation. Lately a lot of men have added to the struggle of our black sisters by being so vocal about their preference for light skinned women (yellow bones) now with all these knowledge we can start to analyze what might be wrong if anything is wrong. Does light skin mean more beautiful or is it the after effects of colonization? Or the direct results of sensational marketing that leads to self hate if not adhered to. Is it because we were made to believe that the color of the skin somehow affects one’s IQ?

“1 out of 3 women in South Africa admitted to using skin lightening products, while in Nigeria the stats stand at 4 out of five”

Obsession with beauty can’t be left out of this analysis as research shows that in 2012 alone south Africa contributed to a share of $3.4 billion being the highest in the continent in regard to the sales of beauty products. Why would a nation be that obsessed with looking beautiful? Does this signal deep underlying issues that we are hiding under our heavy makeup, lipstick and long eye lashes? This is confirmed by the report released this year that 1 out of 3 women in South Africa admitted to using skin lightening products, while Nigeria boastfully takes home the win in this case with 77% of women using skin lightening products. One is tempted to ask if the choice these women make is based on what they truly like or what they think other people like. The issue of beauty for women in general has always been a complex one, with African Sized women trying to fit into a size 26, while in other parts of the world size 26 women are trying to attain that African booty. Light skin versus dark skin, short hair versus long hair, weave versus natural, blond versus brunette; but in the heart of all this issues we can’t help but observe that seeking validation and lack of confidence in one’s physique fuels this ongoing struggle to define beauty in the eyes of the second person or society in extreme cases.

“African Sized women are now trying to fit into that size 26, while in other parts of the world size 26 women are trying to attain that African booty”

While the general response you get when asking why people bleach their skin is “my skin my choice”. A study contacted in Tanzania shows amongst other reasons, women bleach to attract partners or impress them while others do it to be lighter and “beautiful”. With all this observations, it is obvious that the cut is deeper than we can imagine, the American music videos that have influenced our local videos with light skinned girls walking around is a billboard for marketing a cancerous psychologically linked image of beauty that is not only sad but life threatening. The photo shopped images in the weekly magazines and model ambassadors of beauty products also add to this pressure. But before the music videos, she had already started playing with Barbie hence I still maintain that Barbie should be black toned with an afro, dread locks or even better a brushed haircut.

While we can’t judge, ridicule or prevent people from bleaching we can help reduce the huge number by redefining African Beauty. And educating people about the side effects of these practices. If being beautiful means putting yourself at a high risk of getting skin cancer, liver failure, kidney failure, psychiatric disorder, severe birth defects for your unborn child then the beauty you talking about is unhealthy, let us not ignore the internal struggle that influenced the decision to bleach in the first place, assuming that a lighter skin will resolve that struggle will be a blatant lie. Low self-esteem and the pressures to live up to what society perceives as beautiful are the reasons sitting comfortably behind an annual $74 billion industry that serves no purpose, adds no value but still manages to sell our Naturally gorgeous African sisters illusions and dreams.

What happened to seeing things differently????? If we all are going to regard light as the only type of acceptable beauty, then we will be putting  more minds in danger as our little sisters and beautiful unborn daughters would go out there and try to live up these made-up illusions about beauty. All these has devastating emotional and psychological effects!!

Black is beautiful and so is white and so is every shade that falls in between this two extremes.

“Shade Doesn’t matter Heart Makes The Lover… Girl You So Beautiful…Girl You So Beautiful…” Wale

When Did We All Become Hypnotics?? "The Genius Of free Thinking"… By Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

When did we all become hypnotics?

I am standing on this point of uncertainty, confused or rather intrigued by the state of our country, the unemployment rate, crime rate, teenage pregnancy, school dropout rate and this rates are a tool used to label a generation I happen to be part of, as a “Lost Generation”. Of course I am stubborn I don’t take that, I am not lost am being denied a chance to save my fellow brothers and sisters, because the policy that governs the interaction between my Generation and the “generations of heroes” happen to be 103 years old. Creating More Young Genius Minds

A young mind is naturally receptive and very active, it is the ideas we are exposed to at a young age that ultimately become our inspiration. Often we neglect or underestimate the power of incited ideas; a young mind is capable of becoming positive or negative, amazing or mediocre. This is the stage where a young mind can be shaped into becoming a great mind, the dangers however is that this mind is vulnerable. Read More …

The Jomo Of All Trades “The Story Of A Multifaceted South African Great” By Dimo & Kagiso

jomo-sono

Mr Ephraim Matsilela Sono known as Jomo Sono, ‘the black prince of SA football’ or Bra J or Mjomana is a legend, even though I personally shared a post throwing shade his waythis week in the midst of all the social media craze I have to admit that there is a lot young entrepreneurs (young people in general) can learn from him. He is the owner, Chairman, and a coach of Jomo Cosmos football club. The longest serving coach in the premier league!!

Looking at his early career or the birth of his career one thing, one thing one can learn is that he was a persistent person. Let me just say should he have never attended that first game he was fielded maybe there won’t be Jomo today. He knows how to take an opportunity and run with it, that is what landed him a contract with Orlando Pirates. He is a hard worker that is why he has scored himself a name Jomo (named after the former Kenya President Jomo Kenyata).

He is a very dedicated man that can be witnessed by simply tracing his career as a soccer player from start to the day he resigned from being fielded out of desperation to playing in the United States. When he bought himself a soccer team Jomo Cosmos (which he named after himself and his former team) one can learn that you can turn your passion into business. He had a choice to buy himself cows, hotels maybe but he chose soccer because that is what he is passionate about.

His determination, passion and consistency scored him a couching job for Bafana Bafana, but before he got there he was a caretaker couch, he was also a technical advisor and that shows how much he is willing to learn (starting small). This is the man who went to play a game on his wedding day.

He is the board member  of 32 companies, got business interest in property, Petroleum, hospitality, mining, vehicle tracking and still finds time to coach, spot young talent in the dusty grounds where cameras never go and yes sit on the driver’s seat. From today onwards I am calling Mr Jomo Dr Jomo. All of us can learn a lot from this underrated South African hero!! We salute him for his resilience, passion for developing youngsters and also leading the way in business, I myself can only wish for such a genius persona that is within this man.

And oh, the reason we wrote this piece?? Well….

This past week a picture of a Jomo Cosmos bus driver taken from a distance was circulated on the ever chill-less South African social media scene. The bus driver sorta kinda looked like Jomo Sono, this then set social media on fire with people claiming that Jomo Sono actually drives the team bus. This then resulted in many memes being created having his picture on, from him being proclaimed as the team Doctor, to team Spokesperson, team Lobola Negotiator, team Lawyer to team music Director. The list goes on… But apart from the chill-less social media, I just thought that some genius can be drawn from this man. All this highlights his flexibility, he has within him multifaceted traits, he does not limit himself to one thing, he believes in expanding himself and exploring all his God given talents and realizing his full potential.

South Africans stand up!! It is for that reason that we South Africans will cease to use the figure of speech “Jack Of All Trades”, the recently updated version shall be used as “The Jomo Of All Trades”. This is in honour of Jomo Sono’s multifaceted nature and ability to unleash his full potential and inspire us all to explore whatever it is we want to take on. So go on and explore all possibilities, do not be scared, it can be done, let your ideas outlive you.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path. And that will make all the difference.” Steve Jobs (this is a quote taken from a speech he gave to graduates at Stanford  University encouraging them to explore whatever it is they want to take on, that it might not make sense now but trust that one day it will all make sense and everything you would have built on will integrate and turn into a success story.)

My Girlfriend Dished Up The Same Amount Of Meat As My Dad

Based on a true story…
Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele

Not for the faint hearted, that is all I can say for now. When my Girlfriend and I went home for the weekend I was really excited about it. My mom had been praying for the day that she gets to meet a prospective makoti. Little did I know that my girlfriend being a feminist she wasn’t gonna switch up ever in trying to blend in with new people; her feminism was not gonna be switched off as it may (to all feminist women keep at it sisters no matter what you face). So it was time to cook, somehow she volunteered to cook for us which was really great, I could sense the hidden smile on my father’s face and the speechless approvals of my mother (an impression of a good daughter in-law to-be)

So she dished up for everyone, and when she called ‘supper is ready’ the real challenge began… Normally or should I say traditionally the amount of food on a plate speaks volumes (especially the meat chana) so when everyone had their plate in their hands our eyes where somehow fixed at hers because she unconsciously broke one of those non stated ranks. So according to primitive principles she was not supposed to cook the first day she got there so she can observe family protocol. Yes so she can study who gets what but that wouldn’t stop her from dishing the amount she was satisfied with, this occurrence reminded me that the struggle is going to be a very long and hard one.

Everyone on the table could not ignore my father’s facial expression; poor old man could not believe what he was seeing… Firstly there was no water brought to the table so he could wash his hands, secondly his plate had one piece of chicken, only one!! I’ve been knowing my dad to be a 3 pieces of chicken type of guy. My mother had to intervene and all. Regardless of that, the whole night went well and this abovementioned unfortunate situation has thankfully now become a hilarious family joke whenever there is a family gathering.

The struggle in urban areas is different, down here primitive rule is still observed and the tummy of a women is smaller, she also must not eat a lot of meat; I guess that is why Pedi’s play far away from nguni speaking women lool. The question still remains, where does one draw the line between tradition and feminism? stuck in between a rock and a hard place it may seem.

Dear Capitec: We Do Not Recognize This Unknown Sangoma That Is Viceroy, But We Plead For More ATMs Please

Dear Capitec

First I just want to thank you for the Gold card and good service I’ve been getting thus far.

I know you are currently facing a storm and thanks for assuring me my money is safe with you, let me highlight that my writing of this is not fueled/motivated by the recent media releases concerning Capitec and the wild fire that your PR teams is currently putting off. I would like to bring to the front the reason I joined/started banking with Capitec, I moved to your bank because it is cheaper and way too convenient or at least I was convinced such is the case.

I am not in a position of any conclusive number/stats to support this on a national demographic base, but from the little research I did on the corner I occupy I learned that 3 out of 10 students bank with you and they are very happy but just maybe not really happy the way they would be if Capitec ever sat down and considered them.

Even though you have assured us our money is safe with you I want to raise the concern that the seen to be deliberate absence of Capitec ATM machines in institutions of higher learning has somehow seen the greatest leak of our very little money out of our accounts as bank charges, I speak for most students when I say those R6 an R8 can go a long way in this very trying economy. The option pops whenever I find myself stranded in campus trying to get cash that ask me if I am aware that there will be extra charges, and every time that happens it goes straight to my heart because such a penalty is not supposed to be carried by me in the event where my service provider failed to provide me with a reliable ATM that I can always use “conveniently”.

I mean sure we can always catch a cab to go use your ATMs outside of campus but that includes other costs that in this case would be fair to be referred to as banking charges since I suffer financial loss in the process of accessing the money you have safely kept for me at what was supposed to be a lower rate.
WE REALLY LOVE CAPITEC and we hope your team of planners and strategist would sit down and help us save our money by considering the option of having your ATMs at institutions of higher learning, I wanted to say that everybody is doing it but that would be wrong so let me say everybody is penalizing us because you don’t do it.

PS. With the little situation with Viceroy, we cannot subject the macro-stability of the financial market to a group of unknown sangomas, so middle finger to them.

Yours in good standing failthful customer Dimo Wa Moraswi Sekele and the thousands of students who have faith in Capitec
