My Friend Thinks That Every Girl That Shows Interest In Him Wants To Harvest His Organs (The Impostor syndrome)

I got this friends of mine from way back. His name is ‘Thabo’

He constantly reminds me that these hoes ain’t loyal… He never really explains why but what he doesn’t know is that I know that the last girl he dated stuck a ‘knife’ so deep to his heart that he hasn’t been able to sleep on his left side since.

Thabo is on the come up, at his age he has managed to build himself up to being a well-established young man that is hard working and has a balanced financial status to match. It hasn’t always been so as humble beginnings are a constant with my people. With that being the case and society being as it is, it was quite rare for us to get lucky with pretty girls back when huge accounting IFRS books were a norm and the library was a home away from res, hashtag Extranerdinary!!

Flashback to the current climate, we not doing so bad, the system classifies us as working class. Like I said, the homey is on the come up – and with that comes a nice German hatchback to match and of course the dimes come through with ease when the status is right. With that – he never knows exactly what it is that ladies find appealing in him as there is now a sudden influx of them. Is it the car? Is it the CA designation? Is it my level of articulateness? The apartment in a gated neighborhood? Is it the looks?? What the hell is it???

As a man with a clear and sober non-naïve mind – I know something has to give…

He seems to be fixated with the idea that all ladies that show interest in him wanna harvest his organs, real talk – I’ve been cracking myself up for a while now as I constantly converse with him about this. Harvesting his organs as in surgical, no reference to the hanky-panky stuff.

Everytime he heads over to the spot of a new potential – he sends me his location and says this without fail everytime:-

“Just in case my kidneys get harvested – this is the last location I was at”

Maaaan! What the hell!! Just take the blessings you’ve been working hard for and roll with it!

How many of us have a clear view of the type of lifestyle, car, career and partner we want – yet when it all comes rolling our way, we always without fail question the blessings we getting? Just take the blessings and roll with it, you’ve worked hard to build yourself and all that comes your way – you damn sure well deserving of it, don’t question it – own up to it as there sure is more on the way. This can be as a result of historical conditioning – mostly due to our unfortunate backround and unpbringing, most of our parents never had much, most in the community never had much – there was never a clear success benchmark that had no limits. We tend to put a ceiling to our ambitions and when we hit the ceiling, most go into hibernation and call it quits on trying to aim higher. We just need to realise that the peak has not even been seen, we can take our ambitions and goals further than what we’ve come to accept as ‘making it’.

Clinical psychologists Pauline R. Clance and Suzanne A. Imes call this condition:-

Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenonfraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which people doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent, often internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.

Don’t fall for that trap, like I told my friend – take the blessings and go with it, don’t questions – there is more, just believe it and keep challenging the status quo.
